A naval ship of India will pay a goodwill visit to Fiji, the Fijian government announced on Monday.
Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sumitra, scheduled to berth on Wednesday, is expected to bring in five tonnes of vegetable seeds that will be handed over to the Fijian government to assist with the Tropical Cyclone Winston rehabilitation programme, according to Fiji's Department of Information, Xinhua news agency reported.
As part of the visit, a joint programme by Fiji's Ministry of Defense and India's High Commission there has been organised for the general public for a medical camp to conduct free medical check-ups and counselling together with a band display.
INS Sumitra will be open for visitors on Friday, said the department.
Due to historically colonial reasons, some 40 per cent of Fiji's total population today is of Indian descent.
