Indian-origin businessman Satish Sehgal, one of the leaders of the People's Democratic Reform Committee's (PDRC)-led anti-government protests in Thailand and who is facing deportation, Thursday appealed to the Thai king for help.
He submitted an appeal to this effect to the Bureau of the Royal Household after the country's immigration bureau okayed his deportation Wednesday, Thailand's official National News Bureau reported.
Sehgal had earlier appealed against the decision of the interior ministry's immigration committee to deport him for defying the emergency decree that has been imposed on Bangkok and surrounding areas.
Thailand has witnessed controversial anti-government protests since December last year, aimed at the removal of acting Prime Minister Yinluck Shinawatra and the Pheu Thai party from power.
Sehgal, a high profile business tycoon, said he fears for his life and reiterated that justice has been denied to him. Furthermore, he stated that the interior ministry had never summoned him to defend his case and he had no idea whatsoever about how his case was processed.
To this day, he has not received official documents from the centre pertaining to his deportation order, he said, adding that he did not violate any law when he appeared on the PDRC's stage during the protests.
