An unemployed youth from Punjab was arrested Wednesday in the border district of Amritsar on charges of spying for Pakistan, police sources said.

The Special Operations Cell of Punjab Police took Tarwinder Singh into custody from Attari Road. He belongs to Lopoke area in Amritsar.

Police seized a Pakistani SIM card, photographs of restricted areas in India, Indian Army manuals and sketches of military installations in Amritsar from him.

The man told investigators that he was asked to spy for Pakistan when he went to that country in April this year as part of a religious group.

He was asked to get details of army installations near the border in Punjab, movements of army units and information about army exercises. He was also asked to photograph army installations and vehicles.
