Innovative research work at IIT-Delhi Open House

Waterless urinal technology, a wood cane crusher and a solar powered refrigeration system are some technologies that will be displayed at IIT-Delhi's Open House 2014.

The open house, to be organised April 19 within the institute, will provide an insight into the research work, student projects and the advanced facilities available at the institute.

The event is a platform to exhibit path-breaking technical projects.

"This year, the theme is social relevance," said Suneet Tuli, dean, research and development, IIT-Delhi. He added school children form a major segment of the target audience.

Some other key and demo projects that will be on display include fibre wrapping for earthquake protection of building, object locator for visually impaired and biogas technology for green vehicular fuel.

Professor V.K. Vijay said using various kinds of organic wastes, the upgraded biogas can be used directly in a CNG vehicle without any engine modification.

"The emissions are better and it is cost efficient as well," he explained.

The event will also have educative sessions while the projects will be evaluated and awarded.
