Denouncing instances of intolerance, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said nobody should be discriminated on the basis of faith, caste or creed.
"The news of intolerance we are getting from electronic and print media is very worrisome," the minister said while inaugurating the Indian Police Foundation and the Indian Police Institute here.
"For us, these are issues of concern," he said.
The minister said India was the only country that spread the message of 'Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam' (World is One Family).
Rajnath Singh said he was making the appeal on the eve of Dussehra in the backdrop of incidents that have caused tensions in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, Faridabad in Haryana and in Punjab.
"We should not be getting any complaints of intolerance on the basis of caste, creed, religion or sect," he said.
Rajnath Singh termed the recent incidents of violence as "very unfortunate" and "condemnable". He said he was in touch with the concerned chief ministers.
The minister's references were to the September 28 lynching of a Muslim man in Dadri by a Hindu mob following rumours that the victim ate beef. The killing triggered widespread condemnation.
On Tuesday, a group of upper caste people set fire to the house of a Dalit in a Faridabad village, killing his two children.
And Punjab has witnesses major protests following the desecration of the Sikh holy book.
