Helen Mirren has won several accolades for her realistic portrayal on the silver screen. But the Oscar-winning actress says being in her prime in the 1970s was 'horrible'.

The actress also termed the time when her career was at peak unfortunate while talking to Times2, reports dailymail.co.uk.

"I happened to hit the culture at a time that was worse than the f****** 1940s or 1950s. It was horrible," she said.

The actress, who starred in "O Lucky Man!" in 1973 and "The Long Good Friday" in 1980, said that before the wave of feminism, the showbiz industry was 'perilous' for women.

"Men saw that as a sort of, "Oh, fantastic! We can f*** anything, however we like, whenever we like! They're up for grabs, boys!" It was that kind of attitude'," the 69-year-old said.

Meanwhile, the actress will next be seen in "Woman In Gold", which also stars Ryan Reynolds.
