Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday congratulated the Kashmiri boy on receiving the 'Shaurya Chakra' for tackling militants in the Shopian district.
Irfan Ramzan Sheikh was awarded with the third highest peacetime decoration of India on Tuesday by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Malik said the courage with which Irfan fought militants was exemplary and would always be an inspiration for people to defeat ill-designs of elements inimical to peace and harmony in the society.
On October 16, 2017, three militants tried to enter Irfan's house and kill his father Ramzan Sheikh. The 14-year-old fought with them.
In the struggle one militant was killed, while his father got severely injured.
