To avoid civilian casualties during riot control operations, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are getting a host of non-lethal riot control equipment, police said on Friday.
Included in the proposed gear is the non-lethal pepper-ball launching system and anti-riot gas masks to deal with law and order situations in the state, a police officer said in Jammu.
The police department has floated tenders seeking bids for these two products.
The non-lethal pepper ball projectiles would be fired from specially designed forced compliance weapons or modified paintball guns.
The anti-riot gas mask would be used to protect the force personnel from inhaling airborne pollutants, toxic gases and pepper spray during riots.
The proposed masks would also cover eyes and other soft tissues of the user during a riot control operation, the officer said.
