Justice (Retd.) Markandey Katju, a former chairman of Press Council of India, on Monday said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley should resign over the allegations of financial irregularities in the DDCA.

"If massive financial irregularities were taking place for several years right under Jaitley's nose when he was head of DDCA, as disclosed by Kirti Azad and the videos in Wikileaks4India, there are only two possibilities and in either case he is unfit to continue as a minister, Katju said in a Facebook post titled 'A Time to Resign'.

He also mentioned the two possibilities.

"First, he was aware of all this, and either colluded in the scams or turned a Nelson's eye to them, for reasons best known to himself and second he was blissfully unaware of all the scandalous activities going on for years in DDCA , in which case he is totally incompetent," he said.

"In either case he is unfit to continue as a minister," Katju concluded.

Azad, suspended from the Bharatiya Janata Party, unleashed a campaign to expose what he said was massive corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), headed by Jaitley for 13 years till 2013.

Jaitley has denied the charges.
