Jaitley to open conference of tax commissioners Monday

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will Monday inaugurate the annual conference of the Chief Commissioners and Director Generals of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax.

"The main focus during the two-day annual conference would be the assessment of the department's performance in various spheres during the last financial year, challenges in achieving revenue targets set for indirect taxes by the government in the current financial year and preparing an action plan for meeting these revenue targets," the finance ministry said in a statement here.

Discussions are planned on various areas of revenue augmentation, namely revenue analysis, scrutiny of returns submitted by assessees, audit, enforcement measures, dispute resolution and recovery of tax arrears, among others, the statement added.

The valedictory address on Aug 12 will be made by Minister of State for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, the statement said.
