Japanese firms facing problems in India: Envoy

Japan's Ambassador to India Takeshi Yagi Thursday said Japanese companies are facing series of problems in India pertaining to taxation and infrastructure.

"Japanese companies continue to face series of problems on customs, taxation and infrastructure," Yagi said in his address at the International Engineering and Technology Fair (IETF) 2015 organised by Confederation of Indian Industry here.

"We strongly hope that the new policies and campaigns and initiatives which have been launched by the new government will be materialised as laws and administrative measures will be materialised on the ground," he added.

At the 21st IETF 2015, Japan is the partner country and almost 60 Japanese companies will showcase their latest products in the fair.

To facilitate and fast-track investment proposals from Japan, India's department of industrial policy and promotion had set up Japan Plus initiative.

Bilateral trade between the two countries was $16.29 billion in 2013-14, as compared to $18.51 billion in 2012-13.

The Indian government is committed to take steps to improve ease of doing business in the country, DIPP Secretary Amitabh Kant said.
