A court here on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the BJP after one of its MPs failed to appear before it as witness in a complaint filed by senior advocate Ram Jethmalani against his expulsion from the party.
Additional District Judge Vineeta Goyal asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 after its parliament member Bhupender Yadav failed to appear as a defendant witness.
The court was hearing a plea filed by Jethmalani against his expulsion from the BJP.
Jethmalani's counsel Ashish Dikshit has challenged the BJP's decision of May 2013 to expel his client from the party after he openly criticised the party leadership.
The party has sought more time from the court to defend itself.
The court listed the matter for August 17 for further hearing.
