A man in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Thursday has been arrested for killing his brother, sister-in-law and a niece, and injuring his nephew, the police said.
According to the police, Sudarsan Mahakud killed his 45-year-old brother Gurucharan Mahakud, sister-in-law Bimla and niece Alochana, seriously injuring his nephew Rajesh.
According to one version, the reason behind the murder was a property dispute as both brothers were living in neighbouring houses. However, according to police sources, another angle could be that Sudarsan attempted to rape his niece.
A drunk Sudarsan entered his brother's house and attempted to rape his 13-year-old niece. When she resisted, he killed her. As his brother Gurucharan attacked him, Sudarsan axed him too to death.
