A 23-year-old student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here attacked a woman classmate with a sharp object on the campus and later attempted suicide, a police officer said Wednesday.
The incident was reported at around 11.30 a.m. in room number 213 of the School Of Languages.
The man was identified as Akash and the woman as Roshani, 22. Both were immediately rushed to different hospitals.
"Akash was taken to Safdarjung Hospital and Roshani was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). We have recovered a country made pistol, a bottle of poisonous substance and an axe from the spot," a senior police officer said.
According to the officer, Akash attacked Roshani with a sharp object, leaving several injuries on her body. He later slit his own throat and also consumed a poisonous substance.
