Karnal Singh has been appointed as Director General of Enforcement Directorate (ED), an official statement said on Thursday.
The appointment committee of the cabinet on Wednesday approved Singh, 1984 batch IPS officer of Union Territories cadre, as ED chief till August 31, 2017 until further orders.
The post was vacant after the government had curtailed the tenure of Rajan S. Katoch, the previous ED Director, in August 2015.
Since then the additional charge of the post of Enforcement Director was assigned to Singh.
On August 19, 2015 Singh was given the additional charge of the post for three months. In November, his tenure was extended by another three months.
Singh was given a six-month extension for the second time to hold additional charge of ED Chief in February 2016.
