Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Thursday wrote to his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar seeking a meeting to discuss water-sharing between the two states, an official said.
The development comes a day after Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government halved power rates for up to 400 units and made 20,000 litres of water free for a month for Delhiites.
In his letter, Kejriwal informed Khattar that the Haryana irrigation department has substantially reduced the release of water which could lead to major disruptions in drinking water supply in the national capital.
The Delhi chief minister has offered to meet Khattar in Chandigarh along with his team of officers to discuss and resolve the issue, an official statement said.
After taking over as the chief minister of Haryana, Khattar had refused to supply water to Delhi through the Munak canal.
However, in Dec 2014, he said that the issue would be resolved.
The Munak canal issue has assumed political significance as every summer, the national capital faces an acute water shortage.
