Kenyan ace Moses Mosop, a 2:03:06 marathoner and decorated track and field, cross country and road racer, has withdrawn from April's Boston Marathon.
Mosop, who ran the blistering time at the 2011 edition of the World Marathon's 2014 Majors race has been forced to pull out of the World Marathon Majors race due to a knee injury, his management, International Athletics Consultancy (IAC) announced Tuesday, reports Xinhua.
"During first week of February, after a fartlek session on a slightly downhill course, Moses felt pain in right knee and as time passed the pain increased."
"Moses did visit an established physiotherapist in Eldoret, Kenya and he was instructed to cease running for a period of two weeks," IAC said.
Mosop, who won the 2011 Chicago Marathon, will miss the Boston party since his lay-off means he does not have time to get ready to compete effectively.
He is projected to resume competition in the summer with a few road races in the US before he enters a fast World Marathon Majors race in the autumn.
Reigning Chicago and last year's Tokyo champion, Dennis Kimetto, is the other Kenyan star sweating to get fit after he suffered a slight ankle sprain in training.
