The dumping of a 20-day old baby in a washing machine in Kerala is being probed by the police.
On Thursday (September 3), a baby was found dumped in a washing machine and though there has been some reports that the baby was dumped by the mother, this is yet to be confirmed.
Speaking to IANS on Saturday, Koduvally Circle Inspector Premjith said that at the moment, it is a bit premature to conclude on who did this.
"We are treading very cautiously. All I can say now is we are leaving nothing to chance and do not wish to name any particular person," said Premjith.
On hearing the baby's mother crying, the neighbours rushed in and found her baby in the washing machine.
The woman - Hasna - told the neighbours that an unidentified person barged into her house, sprayed chill powder on her face and dropped the baby into the washing machine.
Police tried to find out the unidentified person and on questioning the woman, found out that there was something amiss with her statements.
Some media reports claimed that the mother was responsible.
"The media can come to any conclusion but we can't do that. Our probe is on and so far no arrests have been made," added Premjith.
The baby is presently admitted in a hospital.
