Kerala wants one of its athletes to win a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics.
"Sports has to become a mass event. Our target is to set the stage for a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics," Sports Minister E.P. Jayarajan said on Thursday.
Jayarajan said this while addressing a mass run to coincide with the International Olympic day celebrations here.
Jayarajan's statement comes a day after he said he was happy that Olympian Anju Bobby George and the entire 12-member Kerala Sports Council had quit.
This happened after the minister reportedly gave a dressing down to George when she called on him after he took over as the Sports Minister.
George was the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Athletics Championships in 2003.
