The total area sown under the kharif crop as on August 11 stood at 943.45 lakh hectares against 936.95 lakh hectares in 2016, the Agriculture Ministry said on Friday.
"It is reported that rice has been sown in 320.29 lakh hectares, pulses in 127.48 lakh hectares, coarse cereals in 167.50 lakh hectares, sugarcane in 49.73 lakh hectares and cotton in 117.11 lakh hectares," a statement said.
While the area sown under rice, sugarcane and cotton is higher this year, the area under pulses, coarse cereals and oils seeds has reduced this year, as compared to last year.
