Khushwant Singh is dead

Internationally renowned author and journalist Khushwant Singh died here Thursday, his family said. He was 99.

A Padma Vibhushan recipient, Khushwant Singh authored "Train to Pakistan" and "Delhi" among a dozen-odd books.

Born in Hadali, now in Pakistan, he had, among others, served as the editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India. He was also a member of parliament from 1980 to 1986.
