A kidnapped bank official in Meghalaya was rescued Wednesday after a gunfight with his abductors in the West Garo Hills district, police said.
Arvind Kumar, manager at State Bank of India's Ampati branch, was kidnapped at gunpoint by three unidentified men from Garobadha area while he was going towards his office from Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.
Mukesh Kumar Singh, district police chief of West Garo Hills, told IANS: "We (police) rescued Kumar Wednesday morning from Antaggre village after an exchange of fire with his abductors".
"The abductors left the bank manager after security forces retaliated. We do not know if any of the abductors were injured during the exchange of fire, but a manhunt is on to nab them as we have got some lead on their identities." Mukesh Singh added.
