The Akkineni family's Telugu family drama "Manam" has beaten "Vikramasimha", dubbed Telugu version of "Kochadaiiyaan", at the box office in the opening weekend in Andhra Pradesh. However, the Rajinikanth starrer's worldwide performance is quite good.
While "Manama collected Rs.5.32 crore in the state in its opening weekend, Rajini's "Vikramasimha" only managed to mint Rs. 2.8 crore.
"'Manam' has been rock solid at AP box office. It collected Rs.5.32 crore in its opening weekend in the state, while 'Vikramasimha' raked in only Rs.2.8 crore. The Akkineni family film continues to rule the box office in the state," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.
Meanwhile "Kochadaiiyaan" has reportedly collected Rs.42 crore worldwide from all six languages in the opening weekend.
"Directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, the photo-realistic performance capture technology film has set a new milestone in the history of Indian cinema and set the box office ringing with a bumper opening weekend and grossed Rs.30 crore in India and Rs.12 crore overseas," read a statement from Eros International.
According to Trinath, "Vikramasimha" received a mixed response from audiences because of the animation.
"The film's animation was criticised by audiences. They felt everything looked artificial in the film including Rajinikanth's face," he said.
