A girl committed suicide after accusing her boyfriend of posting indecent remarks about her on a social networking website, while another girl alleged gang rape in a taxi in the city, police said Wednesday.

The Class 11 girl student was found hanging at her residence at Behala in the city's southern outskirts Tuesday night.

The girl's suicide note mentioned her boyfriend, and how he caused her psychological distress by posting indecent comments in the site.

The boy had come to know the girl through a social networking website, but soon became so possessive that he wanted her to withdraw from the site.

The girl, however, refused, and ended her relations with him.

In an act of vengeance, the boy uploaded disparaging comments about her on the site.

"The girl could not take it, and took her own life," said a police officer.

The boyfriend has been arrested.

Another girl complained to police Tuesday that three youths raped her in a taxi near the Hastings bridge in south Kolkata.

Police initiated an inquiry, but found discrepancies in her statement.

A youth was arrested, and he disclosed on interrogation that he was her boyfriend and had outraged her modesty by taking her to a city park.

Police are now waiting for the medical examination report of the girl.
