Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday condoled the passing away of noted filmmaker Kundan Shah, saying that his contribution to "alternate cinema is remarkable".
Remembering him as a path-breaking filmmaker, she said: "Kundan Shah's contribution to alternate cinema is remarkable. His movies and television series are epic and will inspire generations to come."
Gandhi expressed solidarity with the friends and members of family of Shah and prayed that his soul finds eternal peace.
Shah, who died in Mumbai early on Saturday aged 69, gave Indian cinema a different brand of humour with the cult black comedy "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" and subsequently television shows like "Nukkad" and "Wagle Ki Duniya" with the 'aam aadmi' at the centrestage.
