At least 11 militants of the Islamic State (IS) group were killed Thursday in an ambush by Kurdish fighters in northern Syria, a media report said.
The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) ambushed the IS fighters at the outskirt of Ayn al-Arab, also known as Kobane by the Kurds, the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the IS fighters opened their fire at dawn Thursday on different parts of Ayn al-Arab, adding that the terror group also fired 22 mortar shells into the city with no reports on causalities.
The YPG also targeted an IS vehicle in the western countryside of Ayn al-Arab, killing at least three IS terrorists, according to the observatory.
The battles between the IS and the YPG and affiliated Kurdish groups have been raging since last September when the IS fighters unleashed a wide-scale offensive to control that strategic city on the borders with Turkey.
However, the ferocious defence of the YPG and the strikes of the US-led anti-terror coalition have so far succeeded to hinder the IS takeover of the city.
