Kyrgyz president accepts resignation of prime minister

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Temir Sariyev and his cabinet.

According to a presidential decree signed late on Monday, all members of the cabinet will continue to perform their duties till a new government is formed.

Sariyev, who has been prime minister since May 2015, announced his resignation on Monday over a road construction project scandal, Xinhua reported.

Earlier this month, a scandal about the legality of competition for a road construction project broke out. The government was accused of having rigged the road construction tender.
