Continuing his impressive show, Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri carded two-under 70 to take tied 10th position after his second round of the 144th British Open at the Old Course here on Friday.
The current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, who scored three-under 69 on Thursday, took his total to five-under 139 following his flawless second round. Lahiri's effort was the joint second best among the ones who have completed their second round action.
Torrential rains in the early morning flooded the Old Course at St Andrews, resulting in more than three hours of play being lost. The 28-year-old Bengaluru-based golfer got birdies on the par-four first and par-five 14th holes to get a 70 in the second round of the oldest Major.
"It was frustrating because I hit many good shots but was just not making the putts. But I was conscious not to be too hard on myself as it's so easy to tell yourself you are not going to get too many opportunities and you got to make a lot of them count," Lahiri said in an Asian Tour release.
"I was very patient and that was the key for me today."
Despite playing at the Home of Golf for the first time, the Indian showed he is still capable of mastering the intricacies of the links course.
"St Andrews is about putting yourself into a good position off the tee. If you can do that, you can think about playing aggressively.
"If you're not in position, you'll then be looking at targets where you can hit and make pars easily. I made sure I was able to do that and I think the result showed today," said the 28-year-old.
Overnight leader Dustin Johnson, who fired seven-under 65 on Thursday, is yet to start his second round, as does reigning Masters and US Open champion Jordan Spieth of the US.
