Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi was on Monday removed as president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).

In a no-confidence motion moved by a group led by Amin Pathan at an extraordinary general meeting held here on Monday, 17 people voted in support of the motion while only one vote of the 18 went in favour of Modi.

Five disputed votes remained in sealed covers.

Out of 33 district associations, 23 reportedly came on time. As the majority of district associations was present, their votes were cast, sources in the Rajasthan State Sports Council told IANS.

As per the RCA constitution, two-thirds support is required in the no-confidence motion.

"We have moved the Rajasthan High Court against the procedure in which the meeting was conducted and the matter is coming up tomorrow (Tuesday)," Mehmood M. Abdi, a Lalit Modi loyalist and RCA deputy president said in a statement.

"Our supporters were not allowed to attend the meeting," he alleged.

BJP leader Pathan said removing Modi was necessary to save cricket, which was suffering in the state because of a ban on Modi by the BCCI.

"We were not getting any international or IPL cricket matches. Now I think things will improve," he said.
