West Bengal's Left Front Tuesday lambasted the Trinamool Congress government for removing Siliguri Police Commissioner K. Jayaraman, alleging it showed the regime did not want the truth to come out.

"They don't want the truth regarding the scam (Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority graft case) and those involved to be revealed. So, when probe reached midway, K. Jayaraman was hurriedly removed," Left Front chairman Biman Bose told media persons here.

Assailing the Mamata Banerjee-led state government, Bose said since the country's independence, the state has never seen the scale of financial scams as were being witnessed now.

Bose also referred to the Saradha chit fund scandal, running into crores. Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh, now under arrest, has named top party leaders for their connection with the company and its promoter Sudipta Sen in a Facebook post and a video grab.

Jayaraman was Saturday removed from his post hours after he arrested Malda District Magistrate Godala Kiran Kumar, an accused in the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) graft case.

Kumar allegedly siphoned off funds from the SJDA during his tenure as its chief executive officer. He was arrested under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act.

However, chief secretary Sanjay Mitra charged Jayaraman with having exceeded his powers in arresting Kumar.

Kumar got bail Sunday.
