Libyan air force strikes seaport west of Tripoli

The Libyan air force Wednesday attacked the seaport of Zuwarah city, 120 km west of capital Tripoli, a military source said.

"The airstrike targeted containers for storing ammunition and a number of armed vehicles of the forces of Libya Dawn. They have been destroyed completely," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

This is the second airstrike in less than 24 hours. The army's air force announced Tuesday that a MiG-21 aircraft targeted ammunition stores in Zuwarah, causing no casualties.

However, Subhi Juma, the spokesman for Libya Dawn militias, said that the strike hit a food store, killing six people and injuring 20 others.

The Libyan army has warned citizens against approaching sites of the forces of Libya Dawn militias as they would be targeted by the air force.

Their jets in November carried out several airstrikes in several cities, including Tripoli, Zuwarah, Zawiya, Sorman and Gharyan, which are all under the control of Libya Dawn.

Islamist militias of Libya Dawn have been controlling the capital Tripoli since August, in which the main air control centre of the country is located. They are also controlling Mitiga airport in Tripoli, as well as the airports of Misrata, Sirte, and Zuwarah.

Libya's national army, along with some pro-secular militias, has engaged in several battles since mid-November trying to regain control of lost cities and towns.
