Life in flood-hit Chennai was slowly limping back to normalcy, with rains stopping on Tuesday morning in the Tamil Nadu capital.

Shops opened up and a massive clean up operation has been initiated in the affected districts where the water levels have receded.

The weather department has forecast heavy rains in coastal Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.

People were still struggling to get back to normalcy. The living conditions are still not okay.

Resumption of auto-rickshaw services and public transport made people's life easier after being completely crippled for the past six days.

Southern Railways has cancelled some long distance trains at Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore stations.

Schools and colleges remain closed in 12 districts of Tamil Nadu.

Rescue and relief operations were going on in water logged areas including north Chennai, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts.

Rahul Gandhi, Vice-President of the Indian National Congress party, is to visit the flood affected capital city on Tuesday.
