Lok Sabha takes up IIIT Bill

The Lok Sabha Tuesday took up discussion on The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) Bill, 2014 that seeks to declare some IT institutions as of national importance and provide manpower of global standard.

The bill, moved for consideration and passage by Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, seeks to provide the four existing IIITs an independent statutory status and proposes to declare them as institutes of national importance to enable them to grant degrees to their students.
