The bodies of two alleged lovers were found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of Isanagar in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh by villagers on Wednesday morning, police said.
Police said that the two were in a relationship for the past two years and were trying to convince their families to agree to their marriage. However, the two families were bitterly opposed to this.
The girl's wedding had been fixed for June 5 and the duo apparently took the extreme step because of their impending separation, a police officer told IANS.
Police said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem and both families had been called for questioning.
