The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Monday approved appointment of Lt. Gen. A. K. Bhatt as the Indian Army's new Director General of Military Operations.
He will replace Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh who moves to Mathura as commander of the army's 1 (strike) Corps.
The new appointment come nearly two months after the surgical strike by Indian troops across the Line of Control to neutralise terrorist launching pads, which Lt Gen Singh as DGMO had announced on September 29, and as incidents of ceasefire violations from Pakistan continue along the International Border and Line of Control.
The cabinet panel also approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs to appoint Lt. Gen Shokin Chauhan as Director General of Assam Rifles on deputation basis for a period of two years with effect from the date of his assumption of charge or till his retirement from the Army or until further orders
