Despite heavy overnight showers, the weather in Uttar Pradesh's capital was hot and humid Friday.

The weatherman said there will be no respite from the sultry weather in the coming few days.

The maximum temperature Thursday was 41.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees above the season's average, the Met Office said.

The humidity levels in the state hovered between 35-71 percent Thursday and are likely to rise Friday.

The monsoon was on schedule and was to hit eastern Uttar Pradesh by June 16 but has since been delayed. The weatherman said the weakened monsoon would pick momentum in the first week of July.
