Twenty-three-year-old striker Karim Onisiwo has joined Mainz until 2019 on a free transfer from Austrian side SV Mattersburg, the German football club has announced in an official statement.
"Karim Onisiwo is a fast and tricky player whose capabilities fit to our style of play. He will get the time to develop his talent. I am looking forward to an interesting winter signing," Mainz coach Martin Schmidt said on Tuesday, reports Xinhua.
Onisiwo arrives from Mattersburg where he scored twenty goals in 48 matches since 2014. He made his debut for Austria's national team in November 2015.
"The talks with coach Martin Schmidt and sporting director Christian Heidel have convinced me. I am sure that I can take my next step with Mainz," the new arrival said.
Mainz occupy the eighth place in the Bundesliga standings. They clash with newly promoted Ingolstadt after the winterbreak on January 23.
