Malaysia Airlines (MAS) on Wednesday restored the normal baggage allowance and the normal route for its flights to Europe.
"All Malaysia Airlines' flights from Kuala Lumpur to London, Paris and Amsterdam from tonight (Wednesday), will resume flying its normal route. Normal baggage allowance has also been restored," the airlines said in a statement.
"Passengers are able to check in two pieces of luggage of up to 30 kg for Economy Class, 40 kg for Business Class and 50 kg for First Class," The Malaysian Star reported citing the statement.
The statement comes following an announcement of a temporary limitation on checked-in baggage allowance for its Kuala Lumpur-Europe sector the night before.
The national airline had cited the longer route over Egypt airspace and unseasonably strong head winds as limiting the airline's ability to carry baggage in cargo.
"The head winds over the last four days were in excess of 200 knots which can add up to 15 percent fuel burn on a B777-200 aircraft," said MAS.
The earlier restriction only allowed Economy Class passengers to carry one cabin baggage of up to 7 kg while Business Class passengers could bring two cabin baggage totalling 14 kg.
Passengers who wished to check in luggage would have their baggage arrive at a later date.
MAS said that all checked-in baggage were in the process of being shipped to affected customers in Europe.
"Based on its current risk assessment, done on a daily basis, the airline is now able to take a shorter route on European flights.
"Malaysia Airlines maintains that safety is of utmost priority in its operations and will not hesitate to adjust its flight path based on its daily risk assessment," the airlines added.
