A delegation from an institute in the Maldives visited Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) here on Thursday and discussed with officials the prospects for academic cooperation and cultural exchange.
The seven-member delegation from the Maldivian Dhivehi Language Academy met vice chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah and other AMU officials.
The delegation is on a cultural tour of various cities in India, including Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Delhi, with an objective to collect information on India's rich educational and cultural heritage.
The first president of the Maldives, Mohamed Amin Didi, was an AMU alumnus.
Vice Chancellor Shah said AMU had conferred D.Litt on former Maldives president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in 1983.
