Man arrested for bigamy

A 46-year-old man was arrested here for bigamy, police said Thursday.

Pranab Kanti Mukherjee, who hails from Kolkata, was arrested after a case was registered against him at sector 55-56 police station here.

Mukherjee had registered himself on an online marriage portal describing himself as an unmarried pilot

"Raveena Sharma (name changed), who worked here as a teacher in a private school, married Mukherjee in Ghaziabad court Dec 2013," police said.

After marriage, the duo moved to Pune while retaining their rented house in sector 56 here.

"Sharma's cousin checked the status of Mukherjee on a social networking site a few days ago and found that he was already married with a 10 year-old child from her first wife who also lives in Pune. Also, Mukherjee turned out to be a private school teacher instead of pilot," police added.

He informed the victim who managed to call Mukherjee to Gurgaon Wednesday and took him to police station without disclosing that she was now aware of truth, police said.

"We arrested the accused from police station itself. He was produced in the court Thursday and sent to 14-day judicial custody," the officer added.
