A 30-year-old man was killed on Wednesday when he fell 13 floors down a lift shaft of a commercial building in central Delhi's Rajendra Place area, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Trilok Joshi, who used to work in Pragati Towers, police said.
"The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when the victim tried to enter the lift on 13th floor of the building but it suddenly moved upwards. Failing to board the lift, he fell 13 floors down the shaft," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Parmaditya told IANS.
"We have registered a case," the officer added.
When asked if the lift was operational or faulty, the officer said: "It is too early to comment right now. We have launched a probe into the issue to find the actual reason of the accident."
