Man killed for not using mat to offer namaz

A man was beaten to death by his relatives for not using a mat gifted by them to offer namaz prayers, police said on Saturday.

The incident was reported from east Delhi's Welcome area on Friday.

Mansoob Khan, 42, was beaten to death by Hanif and his relatives. His elder brothers, Sultan and Mukhtar, were also injured in the attack.

Police said that the incident occurred when Mansoob's brothers objected to him using the mat gifted to him by Hanif, a relative who lived in the same neighbourhood but with whose family they had some earlier disputes.

When Hanif got to know that his mat was not being used, he, along with some other family members, reached Mansoob's house.

After a heated argument, Hanif and his family attacked Mansoob and his brothers.

An eyewitness told police that the attackers were carrying basebats and knives in their hands.

All the injured were taken to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital where Mansoob succumbed to his injuries.
