An unidentified man raped a nine-year-old minor and then tried to smother her in central Delhi, police said on Wednesday.
Police said the Class 3 student staying in Rangpura area in Karol Bagh had gone to an eatery to get food on Monday night when the man lured her away to a deserted spot and raped her.
"The accused choked her and fled after taking her for dead. The girl regained her senses afterwards and reached her home, where she disclosed the crime to her parents," a police officer said.
A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and attempt to murder has been registered against the unidentified accused, he added.
"We are examining closed-circuit television footage from the area and nearby shops to find the accused," he added.
