Robbers gunned down an accountant of a private firm here Monday and looted Rs.18 lakh the man was carrying to deposit in a bank, police said.
The daring crime took place near the State Bank of India branch on Railway Road. The dead man was identified as Sandeep, 35.
Sandeep, who worked for Sanjay Trading Co, a distributor of edible oil, came out of his office in Kirtanwali Gali with a bag containing Rs.18 lakh in cash around 10 a.m., police said.
He was headed to the bank when three robbers on a motorcycle stopped him.
Two of them tried to snatch the bag. As he resisted, one of the assailants hit the accountant on his head with the butt of his pistol, and another shot him in the head.
The accountant collapsed and the robbers escaped with the cash.
