Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato has said he received an offer to join Manchester United two hours before the Engish Premier League's transfer deadline on September 1.
The 26-year-old did not say why the move failed to materialise, reports Xinhua.
Pato has scored 26 goals in 50 matches this season for Sao Paulo, where he is on loan from local rivals Corinthians.
The former AC Milan forward said he hoped to remain at Sao Paulo next season.
"I would like to stay but it doesn't depend on just me," he said.
"For the time being I'm working as hard as I can."
Manchester United signed teenage French s1triker Anthony Martial on the final day of the transfer window for 36 million pounds.
