Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari on Tuesday said that defender Marcelo was taking his time to come back.
The Argentine head coach explained that the Brazilian international wants to improve his health in order to avoid a recurrence of a right leg muscle injury which has plagued the player at different times in 2018, reports Efe news.
"I would like to be able to count on him soon." Solari said regarding Marcelo's comeback.
The 30-year-old player again injured his right leg during his side's October 28 El Clasico 1-5 away defeat to Barcelona, Marcelo scoring Real Madrid's only goal.
"The most important thing is that when he returns, he is right, and we do not lose him again. It is what the coaches, the doctors and the fans want. It is not of any help to us to play a game and then not be able to play the next," explained Solari.
Marcelo initially suffered the injury on February 18 during Real Madrid's 5-3 La Liga win over Real Betis, and again on March 3 in his side's 3-1 victory over Getafe in the Spanish league.
During a press conference, Solari also praised 18-year-old forward Vinicius, stressing that Marcelo's compatriot has exceeded the head coach's expectations.
"He is very young and has the future ahead of him. He has already made his debut in all competitions and these last few months have passed very fast for him. We are all very happy with him," Solari added.
