Ace designer Masaba Gupta is yet to venture into bridal wear. But if she ever plants her feet in that segment, she would like to make it affordable and quirky -- something that she is best known for.
"There are so many other options that are there in the market for bridal wear. There are outfits that are loud, blingy and then there are sophisticated. I need to put my design aesthetic into my bridal look otherwise there would be no difference. I would like to do something more affordable...I don't find it correct to spend so much on a bridal outfit," Masaba told IANS.
But why hasn't Masaba, who launched her eponymous label in 2009, ever tried her hand at creating pieces for the would-be brides?
"I am not someone who inherently knows how to do bridal wear... I do not know much about embroidery, fabric and cuts," she said.
The designer, popular for quirky prints with feminine drapes and silhouettes, feels that she "needs to understand what she needs to do in bridal first".
The 26-year-old got engaged to her beau Madhu Mantena in March.
Asked if she plans to wear her own creation at her wedding, she said: "I do not know how to do bridal...so I don't think I will be able to wear something I have designed (for the wedding)."
But the designer, who is the daughter of veteran actress Neena Gupta and cricketer Vivian Richards said that she would go for her own creations for "smaller wedding functions".
"of course, I will wear something from my designs for the smaller functions...but for the bigger functions I will wear (creation of) another designer," she said.
