Filmmaker Max Landis is set to direct and write the remake of "American Werewolf in London".

"The Walking Dead" creators Robert Kirkman and David Albert will produce the remake for Universal, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

The original 1981 cult classic was directed by Landis's father John Landis.

Also producing the project will be Todd Garner and Matt Smith. Landis and Andy Trapani will be the executive producers.

The original movie was about two Americans backpacking in the English countryside who are attacked by a creature. Weeks later, the lone survivor begins to see apparitions of his dead friend, who warns him that he is turning into a werewolf.
