London, July 21 (IANS/EFE) Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy shot 71 Sunday to win the British Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake.
Spain's Sergio Garcia finished in second place, two strokes behind the winner, reports Efe.
The 25-year-old McIlroy, a former world No.1, added to his major tournament titles, which includes a victory at the 2011 US Open and the title at the 2012 PGA Championship.
McIlroy finished the British Open with a score of 271, 17-under par.
The Northern Irishman ended a 12-month title drought by winning the Australian Open in December 2013 and captured the BMW Championship, the European Tour's flagship event in May.
