A court here on Saturday, sent to one day police custody, the father of a minor who killed a 33-year-old business consultant after hitting him with his speeding Mercedes car here four days ago.
Manoj Aggarwal, who was arrested on Friday, was presented before duty Metropolitan Magistrate Sachin Sangwan, who allowed Delhi Police to quiz him till Sunday.
Seeking his custody, Delhi Police told the court that despite knowing the facts that his minor son is a 'repeat offender', he gave the vehicle's key to him.
Police said that Aggarwal had not taken a a single step in prohibiting his son from taking the vehicle which is an act of criminal omission, thereby abetting the crime of the said juvenile.
They also apprised court that Aggarwal is booked under charges dealing with abetting the crime of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Police added that it was not the first offence of rash and negligent driving by the juvenile. In the past, he has also been found driving in such a way thereby causing a road accident with another vehicle.
Police sought custody on the ground that Aggarwal has to be confronted with his minor son.
Sidhharth Sharma died after being hit by the overspeeding Mercedes car on Monday night while crossing Sham Nath Marg in north Delhi's Civil Lines area to get some eatables from the nearby market.
Police said that on examination of CCTV footage during investigation, it was found that the juvenile offender was driving his car in extremely fast speed in a residential area.
Police had apprehended the minor offender on Tuesday but freed him on bail as he was only booked under charges of causing death by negligence of the Indian Penal Code. Police later registered a case under various sections dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
